Josephine Baker au Pantheon

"Josephine Baker au Pantheon"
Printing on plastic sheet 03/06/2022
1291m2 Parvis du Panthéon, Place du Panthéon, 75005, Paris, France

On the occasion of Josephine Baker's anniversary, and one year after her pantheonization, the artist Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine created a monumental fresco of 1291 m2 on the forecourt of the Pantheon in Paris.

Bold and singular, this work graphically combines all the symbols of this emblematic figure of the Roaring Twenties; from the bright yellow background referring to Josephine's iconic banana belt, to the brown heart-shaped buckle, through the dove nestled on her neck. This flamboyant tribute is carried by a very distinct artistic technique, a work of detail in Chinese ink called "caviar ink" by its creator.

Beyond its symbolic and artistic value, this fresco is also environmentally friendly as it was made from eco-responsible plastic and is destined for a second life by being cut up and recycled into a range of art and craft objects or shared with the public.

While this urban art project, transcending aesthetics, may have only amazed for a day, the NFT digital version of this work keeps this historical tribute alive endlessly.
